Helping to build Success Oriented Environments

Safety

Safety is foundational to an effective environment, you can't make progress without it and your effectiveness is severely impaired. A safe environment is key to managing project risk and any successful delivery.

Collaboration

Once you have Safety and Engagement, your teams can finally collaborate. But, many processes designed to support collaboration can actually inhibit it. We give you the information you need to stay on the right path.

Engagement

Engagement is core to building teams who care about their work, are passionate about organisational outcomes. It contributes to higher levels of mental resilience and lower levels of turnover.

What can I expect to learn?

  • Understand the definition for psychological safety and explore it's meaning in context.
  • Understand the signs of unsafety in teams and individuals.
  • Understand the signs of unsafety at an organisational level.
  • Understand how fear, blame and shame affect a team's ability to communicate.
  • Understand the role of vulnerability in creative problem solving and team communication.
  • Understand why psychological safety is foundational to team effectiveness.
  • Understand the relationship between safety and engagement.
  • Understand the definition of engagement and explore it’s meaning in context.
  • Understand the difference between teams and work groups.
  • Understand the five facets of an effective team.
  • Understand key practices to fostering safety in agile teams.
  • Understand how to facilitate (and take part in) safe retrospectives.

❝ The most complete picture of psychological safety, engagement and collaboration available today. ❞

In 1999 Amy Edmondson defined what psychological safety is. But it was only when Google completed their research for Project Aristotle in 2015 when it really came into the limelight - when they showed that psychological safety was the most critical element of an effective team. This became the central topic for The Agile Path podcast, leading John on over 6 months of intense research.

Speaking to many of the most influential people in the industry, with over 30 interviews and 60+ hours of audio and studying the past and current research in the field spanning decades.

The outcome of this was a series of audio documentaries (still in production) that present the most complete picture of psychological safety, engagement and collaboration available today. Covering not only the latest research, but also the views of professionals in field.

This led to a talk that has been delivered across the UK in London, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham, Nottingham, Derby, Warrington and Edinburgh. Making its debut in the US at Agile and Beyond in May.

Attendees kept asking if they could dig into the subject in more depth, and this workshop was born.
